About Reality Check

What exactly does your program offer?

I’ve taken all the Etsy tools I could find and examined the accuracy of their “estimates” for key Etsy metrics: keyword searches, listing sales, competitor analysis and Etsy trends. This is important data for Etsy shop owners wishing to optimize and grow their shop. Knowing how accurate and reliable the figures are, is obviously very important. My program tells you.

For more insight on what my program offers, go through the first four sections. They’re free and require no registration.

How long does it take to go through your program?

That depends so much on what you know already (about Etsy and the paid Etsy research tools). If I had to estimate, I would say you could absorb the main findings in less than an hour if you want to skip the detail. To go fully through the program and take in all the numbers will take longer. Around 2-3 hours is probably a good estimate. Your subscription does not expire so you can return to my program at any time and as frequently as you’d like.

How does Reality Check assess the accuracy of Etsy research tools?

My first step was to sort out what the third-party Etsy tools actually “know” (from Etsy’s API) and what they “guess”—which is not as easy as it sounds! Accuracy only applies when tools are estimating (i.e. not when they’re reporting something they get direct from Etsy’s API.)

That lead to the next problem. The real numbers (for the things they estimate) are not available to anyone—so there’s nothing to verify their “guesses” against. What’s needed is a way to “estimate” if their “estimates” are accurate!

So, I combined three approaches:

  • I compared across the tools; to see if their results centered around similar numbers for each sample “estimate”.
  • I looked inside the tools; comparing their estimates for one item against their estimates for others, to see if the proportions were consistent across the tools.
  • I looked at how frequently the tools updated their estimates—because if they never changed, or changed in a nonsensical way, they were hardly likely to be accurate.

It’s all in my program.

Which Etsy research tools does your program evaluate?

I evaluated all the tools I could find (and register for!). For more details, go to Module 2 – Available Tools. It’s free, no registration required.

Is your program suitable for Etsy beginners or more experienced sellers?

Both. My program is purely about understanding how accurate paid Etsy tools are. It’s not about how to use any of the tools (so it doesn’t require any experience with tools) and it’s not about Etsy (so it doesn’t require any experience there either). I’ll present the results of my testing; you decide if third-party Etsy tools are sufficiently accurate for you to pay for a subscription.

Can I use your findings to help decide which tool is best for my Etsy shop?

I believe my program will help. I list for you all of the tools, their prices, their features and a breakdown of which tools offer what features. I sort their main features into two logical categories—Research and Operations—to help you sift through the jumble of what 18 tools, all going about things in their own unique way, offer. That should leave you well armed to make your own decision. [You can get all of this in the four free sections of my program.]

The main body of my program deals with the Research features, and whether the paid Etsy tools are as accurate as they tell us. So, if your focus is on research, you’ll have a solid basis for deciding if a subscription is worth your money.

Please note, I do not recommend any tool in my program.

Do you provide support if I have questions about the data?

While I don’t offer a dedicated support service, I’m happy to address any questions about potential misunderstandings or errors in my program. Just use my contact form.

Please note:

  1. I aim to respond to queries within 1 business day, but response times may vary.
  2. I don’t provide personalized advice on selecting Etsy research tools. My program is designed to give you the information you need to help you make your own informed decision.
  3. I can clarify information presented in the program or explain how to interpret the data, but for complex issues or requests outside the scope of my program, I may not be able to provide additional assistance.
  4. I’m continually working to improve the clarity and usability of my program based on user feedback.

Please remember, my program is intended to provide you with accurate data about Etsy research tools. The final decision on which tool to use should be based on your specific needs and circumstances—and up to you.

Ethics and Transparency

Are you affiliated with any of the Etsy tools you examine?

No. I have absolutely no connection with any Etsy research tool. I pay for my subscriptions like anyone else. There are no affiliate links anywhere on this site or in my program.

Do you recommend any particular Etsy research tool.

No.

My program will show you how accurate the tools are for Etsy research—where they can be relied on and where not. I look at all the tools from that perspective only. I don’t offer any opinions or recommendations on the range of features the tools offer, how easy they are to use, the “bang you get for your buck,” or anything else. I do not recommend any tool (but my findings will go a long way to helping you decide if you should subscribe to one).

Can I share your findings with others or use them in my own content?

Please respect my work and effort in creating this resource. I’ve priced it affordably, so I’d be grateful if you refrain from sharing it with others. Thanks for your understanding.
